Understanding Design Studio Tools

Solar Labs offers multiple tools to make your design process faster and more efficient.

Click on the Edit Design button to enter the Solar Labs Design Studio on the Design Summary page on the screen's right side. All the Solar Labs design tools can be accessed from the left-side toolbar on the Design Studio page.

Please find below the Solar Labs tools and their design functionalities:

  • Model

    • Click on the Home Shaped icon on the left side of the screen to choose from Flat roof, Pitched Roof, and Draw Face.

  • Obstruction

    • Click on the Window Shaped icon on the left side of the screen to choose from multiple model tools like Cylinder, Polygon, Handrail, etc.

  • Panel

    • Click on the module icon on the left side of the screen to choose from Add Subarray, Panel Delete Mode or Add Table Mode.

  • Wire-Size Calculator

    • Click on the WireSize Calculator icon on the left side of the screen to save the Stringing data so, SLD can be import


  • Components

    • Click on the inverter icon on the left side of the screen to choose from Inverter Menu.

  • Heat Map

    • Click on the sun icon on the left side of the screen for Heat Map where the user can choose to Show, Refresh or Hide Heat Map in the Design Studio.

  • Solar Access

    • Click on the circular arrow icon on the left side of the screen for Solar Access where the user can choose to Show, Refresh or Hide Solar Access in the Design Studio.

  • Dimension

    • Click on the scale icon to select the dimension tool on the left side of the screen to select the Dimension tool.

    • Click at two points in the Design Studio to check as well as edit the dimensions.

  • Lasso Tool

    • Click on the four arrow icon on the left side of the screen to select the Lasso Tool.

    • Create the area in Design Studio with the help of multiple points to select modules placed inside that area.

  • Text Box

    • Click on the message icon on the left side of the screen. Click inside the design studio where you want to create your text box.

    • Type the text you want to show in the Design Studio.

    • Click on the tick mark on top of the screen to complete the text box.

Other than design tools, Solar Labs also offers mentioned features below:

  • Add Map

    • Click on the Add Map icon and an Add Map pop-up will appear on your screen.

      • Source Selection

        • Click on the drop-down button on Select other sources if you want to choose a different map for your Design Studio.

      • Custom Map

        • Click on the custom image and then click on the + icon to upload the image which you want to use as a map for your Design Studio.


  • Views

    Click on the eye icon on the bottom left of the screen to select the Views tool.

    • 2D

      Click on 2D in the views section to check the 2D view of the design.

    • 3D

      • Click on 3D in the views section to check the 3D view of the design.

    • SLD

      • Click on SLD (Single Line Diagram) in the views section to check the SLD view of the design. Please make sure to add the inverter(s) before clicking on SLD.

  • Layers

    Click on the layers icon on the left side of the Design Studio to select the Layers tool. Below mentioned fields will appear in the Layers section:

    • Show Map Image

      • Click on the tick box next to Show Map Image to show/hide the map image in the Design Studio.

    • Length

      • Click on the tick box next to Length to show/hide the length dimensions in the Design Studio.

    • Arc

      • Click on the tick box next to Arc to show/hide the arc dimensions in the Design Studio.

    • Rafter & Rail

      • Click the tick box next to Rafter & Rail to show/hide rafters and rails in the Design Studio.

    • Dimension

      • Click on the tick box next to Dimension to show/hide the dimensions in the Design Studio.

    • Show Stringing

      • Click on the tick box next to Show Stringing to show/hide the DC strings in the Design Studio.

    • Setback

      • Click on the tick box next to Setback to show/hide the setbacks in the Design Studio.

    • Edge Center

      • Click on the tick box next to Edge Center to show/hide the center point in the Design Studio.

  • Design Settings

    • Click on the settings icon on the bottom left of your design studio screen.

    • A Defaults Settings pop-up will appear on the screen.

    • View/Edit the default settings and click on Save to confirm your changes.
